EASY Blueberry DUMP CAKE RECIPE
You only need 3 ingredients for this recipe. 4 ingredients if you add fresh blueberries for an additional burst of flavor.
Blueberry Pie filling- You could make your own filling by using fresh blueberries. I’ll be using blueberry pie filling because it’s the easiest way for me to make this recipe.
Cake Mix- I used yellow cake mix in this recipe because it’s what I had available. But you could use your favorite flavor cake mix.
Unsalted Butter– Use a stick of butter and keep it cool. That will make it easier when you are slicing it into thin squares.
The best part is that you just dump everything in a pan (that’s why it’s a dump cake). Yep, that is it. Preparation and baking all take place in the same pan.
Materials
A baking dish for the ingredients and a butter knife to cut slices of butter to add to the top layer of the cake.
HOW TO MAKE A blueberry DUMP CAKE
Here is an easy blueberry dump cake recipe you could make with a few simple steps. I make it in a very basic way but there are so many ways you could get creative with this recipe.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Spray a 9×13-inch pan with cooking spray.
Pour in 1 cans of blueberry pie filling into the pan and spread evenly.
Sprinkle the cake mix on top as evenly as possible.
Cut a stick of butter into thin slices and cover the entire top of the cake mix.
Bake in the oven for approximately 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Let cool then serve!
Variations
Blueberries– Using fresh blueberries is a way to really make this recipe authentic. Depending on the ripeness of the blueberries you may want to add a little sugar. Add 1-2 cups of blueberries which will be almost equal to 1 can of blueberry pie filling.
Cake Mix- Blueberry muffin mix is an excellent way to enhance the blueberry flavors. Another idea is to use lemon cake mix to add some lemon flavor.
Add some lemon zest to make a lemon blueberry dump cake.
Cream Cheese- To make the recipe rich you could add cream cheese for a blueberry cream cheese dump cake.
Toppings
This dessert does not require toppings but it’s usually served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or Cool Whip. The cold creaminess of the topping is so good with the warm crisp and juicy dump cake.
Storage
To store any leftover Blueberry Dump Cake, place it in an airtight container and refrigerate it. The freshness will last for about 3-4 days. You can also freeze it for longer-term storage.
Leftovers
To warm up a leftover dump cake, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Then, bake the cake for 15-20 minutes until it becomes hot. You can also microwave individual servings for 30-60 seconds until warm or at room temperature.
FAQs
Can I use frozen blueberries for a blueberry dump cake?
I personally do not reccomend using frozen blueberries for this recipe. If you do decide to use frozen blueberries I reccomend that you do NOT let them thaw and adjust the baking time.
Since frozen blueberries produce more moisture, add a tablespoon of cornstarch to the cake mix. This will thicken up the filling and make sure it doesn’t get too gooey.
